In the Czech Republic, the cohousing movement is still at the beginning (from mid-2008).
Recently, several sporadic tentatives to realize cohousing communities both „from below" (from potential residents) and "from above" (from developers) appeared, but any cohousing project was realized for the time being.
Cohousing is still fewer known housing model here. Often, people have false notions: a high rate of no-confidence of the mainstream, on the one hand, and an uncritical enthusiasm of the alternative minorities, on the other hand.
Perhaps, the main problem obstructing the spread of cohousing in the Czech Republic is an unsufficient experience with the participation of the renters and with the involvement of the public in decision-making process. And, Czechs are still stigmatized by the long-term totalitarian history - an interruption of the natural historical development.
